“I Won’t Give Up!"
Songs to benefit STOP! Children’s Cancer, Inc.

In 2003 while being treated for Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, twelve-year-old Hanna Peterson wrote and recorded the inspirational song “I Won’t Give Up”. This project started with the goal of having Hanna record a song to raise awareness of children’s cancer and bring encouragement to those enduring this dreaded disease.

The very talented Hanna was already a seasoned performer having acted in numerous productions in town, including the lead role in “Annie” at The Gainesville Community Playhouse. When Hanna was originally diagnosed, Diane Biernacki, a nurse at Shands Hospital at The University of Florida, had the idea to have her record an original song. Nick Nanton, who produced the CD, was contacted and the goal became creating an entire CD with all the proceeds benefiting STOP! Children’s Cancer, Inc. Many very talented artists agreed to donate by writing and recording original songs for the CD. Artists include Ken Block of Sister Hazel, Nick Nanton, Greg Doles, Jim Evans, Dan Dickhaus, Ronny Cates (Grammy Award winner, formerly of Petra), John McMillan, Michael J. and Matt Collins.

The result of this collection of talent is the amazing “I Won’t Give Up” CD. The words and music are inspiring and uplifting.  Also inspiring is the experience of Hanna Peterson who is winning her battle with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Early in 2004 Hanna was pronounced free of the disease that had plagued her for more than a year. Although Hanna has returned to her normal teenage life, she continues, when possible, to raise money for cancer research by joining Lyrics for Life for fundraising concerts and by performing the title song “I Won’t Give Up” to enthusiastic audiences.

If local, you may pick the CD up at the STOP! office.
